“I’m telling Dad!” I heard as I walked into the room. It seemed two of my children were less than pleased with each other.
It was the summer of 2008 and my wife and I were in the emergency room with our oldest daughter. She was nine months old. We were there because she had been experiencing a lot of pain and hadnâ€™t had a wet diaper in way too long. We had monitored it with the doctor for a time, but, finally, they told us we needed to get her to the ER.
We are stuck with love. It isn't going away. The One who designed you wrote it into your DNA. You can try to ignore it, deny it, or close yourself off to it, but at your core, there is a cry for love. You need love.
From that day forward, I did whatever I had to do to avoid any semblance of shame. I lied, hid, blustered, diverted attention. Whatever it took. It rarely worked. My efforts only made me feel more ashamed. I had never been an extrovert, but now I retreated deeper into my shell.
