Blessing in a Bathroom Sink

“Sometimes I sits and thinks…and sometimes I just sits,” my dad used to say now and then. It is probably a quote from the Pogo comic strip, and he said it with such a twinkle in his eye.

But if we do take the time to just sit, it can lead to the thinking – to give that rest of spirit that sets the mind free.

So here I am, watching the water flow into the bathroom sink. It flows in such a way that the water forms a shallow heart-shaped pool as it falls into the basin. Wow, I think. There’s wonder in that.

I marvel at the feeling that gives me in our new home – a small joy that helps me feel something of blessing.

I marvel at the person who surely unintentionally designed the faucet to do that…and the one who had the gifted ability to install it.

I marvel at the gift of water itself, provided by God when He separated the waters into sky and ocean so the land would appear…later refreshing the earth from underground and then cleansing it from above at the time of the flood.

And more: I marvel at my God, who is able to still my restless mind enough to help me notice the heart-shaped pool of water flowing into the sink, reminding me of His presence and provision.

Everything speaks to me of You, Lord – my Source, Provider – the One who IS.

“Sometimes I sits and thinks…and sometimes I just sits.”

Thank you Lord for abundantly revealing Your provision for life, and for helping us be aware of Your presence in such delightful ways. You are so good.

“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.” (James 1:17)
